BRENTWOOD 2018
CHENAULT RESIDENCE
The two most prominent features of this Brentwood property were the mature trees that surrounded it and the distant views of the Santa Monica mountains from a future second floor. To take advantage of these two rare opportunities in a somewhat tight, urban neighborhood, the design solution involved placing multiple courts, patios and decks on all four sides of the finished building, underneath and adjacent to the existing mature trees.
An office near the entry looks out onto a grassy shaded yard. The dining room has its own private court, and the kitchen and family rooms open to a sunny patio with a pool and BBQ.
An upper level family room with its own secret, treehouse-like deck, shares the mountain views with the master bedroom right down the hall. Two secondary bedrooms share a long, tree shrouded morning deck.
Throughout the house, natural light and views to the landscape are a predominant theme, while at the same time, there is a comforting sense of intimacy and privacy.
